________________ न्यायसुभांजलि. What should we say, whom should we adore and where should we lodge our complaint ? This universe has lost protection as well as a leader and it is deprived of shelter and refuge; ( for ), in the direct presence of the very goddess Durga ( lit. the mother of the world ), the Brahmanas assemble together, tie the mouth of the animal and throw weapons at its neck without the least scruple. If the goddess is really the mother of the world, is she not also the mother of animals? If she is so, how can the indeed be pleased with the murder of her own son, an animal ? Would not some wicked goddess ( Asuri ) become angry (in case an animal is not sacrificed.)? It is not proper to abandon the path of religion, because she would be offended. 286 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
