| ચતુર્થMoreover, who would not admit that the validity of speech depends upon a reliable (Apta) person ? If it is so, how can the l'edas be considered as an authority when their composition is not dependent upon any reliable person? The statements such as one should kill goats, etc., ( in sacrifice ), worship trees, propitiate the manes, touch a cow as it destroys sin and propitiate gods by offerings, do not stand to reason. ( 1 ) વિદપ્રામાણ્યસંબધી–
વળી વચનની પ્રમાણુતા આખ લેકને આશ્રીને રહેલી છે, એમ કોણ માનતું નથી ? હવે વેદ જે અપષય હોય તે તે આપ્તાશ્રિત નહિ હોવાને લીધે પ્રમાણભૂત કેમ બની શકશે? વળી બકરા વિગેરેના વધ, વૃક્ષપૂજન, પિતૃતર્પણ, ગાયને પાપનાશક સ્પર્શ અને અગ્નિમાં હોમેલ વસ્તુથી દેવતાને સંતોષવા એ વિગેરે વિચિત્ર ઉપદેશ પણ યુક્તિયુકત નથી.”—૧૨ तत्र छागादिबलिं जुगुप्सतेतत्रच्छागवपुष्मतो विहननं स्वर्गप्रदं स्यात् कथं ?
स्वर्गप्राप्त्यनुषङ्गतो नरवपुःसंज्ञप्तितोऽप्यन्यथा । हीनत्वेन नरात् पशोर्विहननं सङ्गच्छते चेत्तदा
हीनत्वेन सुरात् नरस्य हननं सङ्गच्छते कि नहि ? ॥ १३ ॥
How can the killing of a goat lead to heaven ? If it were so, it must be admitted that one can attain heaven even by killing a man. If it is reasonable to believe that beasts are killed as they are
