The author is an original thinker and evidently an ardent student of Jaina Philosophy and the theme seems t suit his pen. The book reminds one of the recollections of our worthy brother and philosopher the late Virchand Raghavji Gandhi whose desciple the author admittedly was and it is in the fitness of things that the book is dedicated to him.
Science of Thought-Or Nyaya by Champat Rai Jain Bar-at-Law. published by Kumar Devendra Prasada The Central Jain Publishing House p. 604 Price ans. 8.) The author has based his book on two small treatises, the Pariksha Mukha and Nyaya Dipika both Digambara works on logic. The book is divided into 26 chapters, index whereof is not given. The subject teems with technical words a vocabulary of which should have been appended. The book therefore lacks in the two necessary parts. The author is well known for his masterly book 'the Key of Knowledge and needs no introduction. He has handled the theme of this book in a plain introductory way by which he has rightly hoped that the book may succeed in attracting to the field of research more competent hands who may be able to bring out the ex. cellence of the Jain view better than he has been able to do. We are of the opinion that the author is fully capable of furnishing a larger Volume on the subject and doing full justice to Jaina logic an important department of knowledge, after going through Sammati-tarka, Pramana-min ansa, and various other Swetambara works on logic. No doubt will this book prove to be of great value to a student of logic by way of supplying a primer and introduction to the Jaina logic.
