દેશી ગૃહસ્થામાં માત્ર ઈગ્લિશ સ્કૂલના હેડમાસ્તર ભોગીલાલ પ્રાણવલ્લભદાસનું નામ–તે પણ સન ૧૮૫ર પછીથી-મળી આવે છે.
વળી તે સમયના મુંબઈના ગવર્નર ફેકલેન્ડે સેસાઇટીના પટન થઈ અને દિવ્યની સહાયતા આપી, તેનું–સંસ્થાનું કાર્ય સરલ કરી આપ્યું હતું.
તેમ છતાં આવું ભગીરથ કાર્ય, એકલે હાથે અને અલ્પ સાધન વડે, તેઓ ઉપાડી લેવા શક્તિમાન થયા; અને તેને વ્યવસ્થિત અને સફળતાપૂર્વક અમલમાં મુકી શક્યા, તેનું રહસ્ય આપણને એમની ધર્મપરાયણ વૃત્તિમાં જણાશે, જે એમનું પ્રેરક બળ હતું. પ્રથમ વર્ષને રીપોર્ટ અનેક રીતે મૂલ્યવાન છે પણ તેમાંને નીચેને પરે ખાસ મનનીય થઈ પડશે
“We are under a religious obligation not only to do the work for which we are responsible to human masters and which for the most part they alone can turn to the good of the country; but (beyond that) to employ ourselves and our faculties and means in some measure (what measure is a question left to every man's own decision, but in some measure ) to the benefit of India and the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ therein.
Now we acknowledge this at Ahmedabad by some social enterprises in which many are partners together. When we contribute to a Christian Mission we. acknowledge the call. When we try to lift up the language of the province from its present ignoble condition and encourage the more gifted fancies among those to whom it is vernacular, to enlarge, refine and regulate it by manifold application, that it may become fitter to convey from mind to mind and from generation to generation both the beautiful and the true, then too we acknowledge the same
