________________ INTRODUCTION MS. Description In the present volume we have mainly edited the Gaharayaṇakosa of Ac. Jinesvarasuri. Along with it we have also edited two tiny Subhāṣitagathasangrahas as they are interesting and have similar subject-matter. We give below the description of the mss. which we have utilized. a 1. Only one ms. of the Gaharayaṇakosa is available to us. It belongs to the Ac. Kṣantisürisvara Collection preserved in the L. D. Iustitute of Indology, Ahmedabad. It bears the serial No. 940. Its size is 25.4 cms. x 11.1 cms. It is a paper ms. It has 34 folios, 13 lines per side of the folio and 39 to 48 letters per line. In the centre of each and every folio there is a blank portion which gives rise to decorative figure. The condition of the ms. is good. The script is legible. Somebody has corrected the ms. Moreover, he or someone else has noted meanings of difficult words, variants and even added appropriate gāthās in the margin. The script of these notes or additions closely resembles that of the main text. Hence we can surmise that the copyist himself has written these notes and added those verses. Further, this means that the copyist was a good scholar. And we gather from the colophon that this copyist is well known Up. Vinayavijayaji (c. V. S. 1670-1740) who has written many works. After having copied the text, he seems to have corrected it. Hence this ms. is very interesting and important. Though the ms. has been copied and corrected by the scholar like Up. Vinayavijayaji, it contains corrup tions here and there. This only means that model ms. before Up. Vinayavijayajı must have been very corrupt. The colophon does not mention the date of the ms. So, we can say only this much that the date of the ms. falls in between c. 1680-1730 V. S. 2. The palm-leaf ms. bearing the serial No. 107 and belonging to the Santinathaji Jaina Jñana Bhaṇḍāra, Cambay, contains, among many works, a tiny work called Subhasiyagahasangaho which covers folios 139153. This is the last work in the ms. The 'Catalogue of Palm leaf Manuscripts in Santinatha Jaina Bhandar, Cambay', published in Gaekwar's Oriental Series, Baroda informs us that Subhasiyagahasangaho consists of 154 gathas whereas Shri N. K. Shah who, having gone to Cambay, prepared the presscopy of the work for us, found the work upto 128th gatha. The size of the ms. is 29.5 cms x 4.5 cms. It seems to have been written in the first half of the 13th Cent, V. S. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
