________________ xviii authority of a colophon of only one manuscript of Sapta-padárthi belonging to the Benares Sanskrit College which runs as follows:- st batafazararsifatfarar 7692tletat FITETUT FATAT"! But Rama-Sastri Tailanga, Assistant Prfessor, Benares Sanskrit College who first attracted notice to this colophon in his perface to the Sapta-padárthî has expressed his doubt as to whether the copyist may not have written the name wrongly. Besides, Pratyagrûpa-bhagavan (author of the Nayana-prasadini commentary on the Tattva-pradîpiká of Chitsukháchárya), has alluded to siváditya Miśra and Vyomasiváchárya separately. He has mentioned the former by his name some ten times but the latter only once. Vallabhacharya (A. D. 984-1178) in his Nyáya-lila vati mentions one Vyomáchárya. Perhaps he may be the same as Vyomasivacharya. But Vallabha does not mention Shivaditya. Rajasekhara, a Jain author of the commentary Panjiká on Prasastapáda Bhashya,' says that one Vyomasiváchảrya wrote a commentary named Vyomavati on the Praśastapáda Bháshya. But no copy of this Vyomavati is yet available. If a manuscript of it be found, it may perhaps throw some light on this point. We must therefore wait for further proof to identify śiváditya Misra with Vyomasivacharya. siváditya's Works-1 erf-As regards the works of siváditya Miśra, his Sapta-padárthi is well known and was published with the commentary Mitabáshiņi of Madhava Saraswati in the Vizianagaram Series in Benares in 1893 and with the commentary Padártha-chandrika of Sesha Ananta, by Prof Gháte in Bombay in 1909. 2 JATTAIDI—This work is mentioned in several books on logic. The definition of correct knowledge viz fatiga:gat, has been criticized by Sriharsha (A. D. 1187) in his Khandana-khanda-khádya and Sankaramiśra (A. D. 1529), commentator of Khandana in explaining this portion of the text states that this is the first definition in the Lakshanamála of Nyayacharya (i. e. Śivadiya Miśra). Varadaraja (Between A.D. 1097-1200 ) in his Tárkikarakshả quotes the definition of Lingar from the Lakshanamála. It may be observed here that 1 See Prof, Gbáte's Introduction to Sapta-padárthî p.
