This commentary has helped the Editor to fix the text more definitely in the light of the interpretations offered by it. Still the Editor has some doubts about the readings here and there. He earnestly hopes that other scholars will offer their suggestions, especially on the Aştapadīs. 3. Commentaries on the GV It is quite likely that a few commentaries were written on the GV i) The Jinaratnakośa notes a Tīkā by another Cárukīrti (taking the name of the author himself as Cărukīrti ). ii) The transcript of the Mysore Ms., M above, has an opening verse which belongs possibly to a Sanskrit commentary, because it is composed in Sanskrit. This is further confirmed by its colophon (see under M above ) which is in Sanskrit and specifically mentions vyakhyanam. iii) The Arrah Ms., A above, used by me contains a Kannada commentary. It does not specify the name of its author. Its opening Margala is in Sanskrit, and it closely resembles the one found at the beginning of M. It seems that a Kannada commentary too could have a Mangala in Sanskrit; this is true of Bommarasayya's Kannada commentary (see below ) also, because the details about Bommarasa etc. are couched in Sanskrit verses.
