the element of lampooning in the Peraại can be perhaps compared with the same in the Veśa (role) of Adavā in the Bhavāi. In this connection we may also note that the Telugu work Basavapurāna written by Somanātha tells as that the Peraņi dance originally came from Saurāṣtra. . Even this casual examination of certain Uparūpakas and allied forms with regard to the popular traits goes to suggest that our regional folk dramas with their varied forms and contents are made up of elements that in many cases reach back to the medieval and classical periods.
