five different manuscripts of which three are very valuable in that they are practically free from errors. One of them is dated in the Vikrama year 1240 and is written on palm-leaves. The other is dated in the year 1483 of the Vikrama era and is written on paper. The third was written in the Vikrama year 1520 and is also ! a paper manuscript. The first and the third are from Cambay or Khambat and the 10 second is from Patan in North Gujarat. The photographs accompanying this edition give an idea of these manuscripts.
This edition has been carefully and diligently prepared by Muni Charanavijaya under the guidance of the learned Jaina Acharya Vijayavalla bha-Sūri, the
worthy successor of the late famous Jaina Achārya Vijayānanda-Sūri, more commonly Xl known by the name of Atmārāmaji. Great care has been taken to make it useful
and as accurate as possible. In giving the text the learned editor has pointed out the variants in the form of foot-notes. He will be giving a word index and an exhaustive introduction also.
The part which is now being placed before the public is only the first parvan of the Trishashtis'alāka purushacharitam. The other parvans are expected to * come out in quick succession.
