आज से प्रायः १३३ वर्ष पूर्व "ई.टी. डलटन साहेबने सराकों की रीति रिवाज देखकर उनके विषयमें जो भी कुछ कहा है, वह निम्न रूप है ।
(१) सराक इस क्षेत्र की पुरातन - जाति है, पर आदिवासी (हरिजनों) में से नही है । आर्यवंशोद्भूत - जाति है ।
(२) ब्रिटिश के युगमें किसी भी अपराधसे दंडित नही ।
(३) जीव हिंसा कभी नहीं करते...।
(४) सूर्योदय के पहले कभी आहार नही करते थे, और ना ही कभी सूर्यास्त के बाद आहार करते थे...।
(५) छोटा नागपुर में भरपूर सराक है । वे कई सदियों से हैं ।
(६) वर्तमान में सराकों की मान्यता है, वे पंचकोट के ही हैं । (७) सराक जाति के लोग खेतीबाड़ी, व्यवसाय तथा महाजनी के काममें दक्ष हैं ।
