जैन साहित्य से यह जाना जाता है कि सराक सिर्फ ताम्बे के व्यापार से ही जुड़े नहीं थे, लोहे के काम से भी ये लोग जुड़े थे । अजय नदी के दोनों तरफ, रूपनारायणपुर से पांडवेश्वर तक जो विशाल लोहे का स्तम्भ
और लोहा गलाने की चुल्ली थी-उसके साथ सराक जुड़े हुए थे । जैन साहित्य में सुधर्मा का नाम पाया जाता है। भगवान् महावीर के शिष्य थे। उन्हीं को प्रथम लौहाचार्य (लोहे जैसे द्रव्य का ज्ञाता) माना जाता है। दूसरे लौहाचार्य भद्रबाहु हुए । डॉ. रमेशचन्द्र मजुमदार के अनुसार भद्रबाहु राढ़ के निवासी थे । इन्हीं के अथक प्रयासों से भारत के पूर्वी छोर में लौह शिल्प की शुरुआत हुई ।

Safaprovince.” The origin of the name of Safe is not known but it appears to be clearly associated with Jainism. Hibert had identified Dalmi as the capital of the Safa province and the entire Dalmi hills are full of Jaina antiquities.
