However that may be, Banerji's Ed. of the Lilavat! is careful, v. 2, to call the scale just given "money by tale" and to give Troy weights in three seales, thus: -

The texts run as follow, vv. 3 and 4:

Now these four statements of the Lilavati are of the first value to the present argument. In the first place we get from them a direct reference of the popular scale of money to the paxua, besides the concurrent Troy seales, popular and literary..
After v. 8 Banerji says there is a spurious verse inserted in the text of the Lilavati, giving

* The existing Surat scale (Gazetteer, p. 208) in 3 rali=161, 16 wdl godïúna, 2' padiáná = tótá. I feel stre is that I am right in taking the scale in the text as of 96 ratfs to the tola.
