Purvas, and he was the first to compose the Pahudas which were collections of relevant passages out of Purvas on select subjects. It may be noted here that the word Pahuda or "Prabhrita" is also used to signify chapter in certain Agamas e. g. Surya-prajnapti and others.
VAJRASWAMI AND PADLIPTACHARYA.
It appears that Vajraswami further classified the subjects in their various divisions and rearranged Pahudas with a view to have separate treatises on the various divisions of a general subject which was formerly treated as a whole by Bhadrabahu-swami. What the author of the present work Padlipta-suri is said to have done is to abridge the said treatises. This is the view of Jinaprabhasuri as expressed in "Vividha-Tirtha-Kalpa" otherwise known as "Kalpa-Pradipa". He also says that Vajraswami's pupil rearranged "Kalpa Prabhrita" and Padliptasuri abridged the same. This can be reconciled with conclusion arrived at in the portion hereof dealing with Padlipta's date by supposing him to be an elder contemporary of Vajra-Swami, complementing the work of the younger "Yuga-Pradhana" (Leader of the age) VajraSwami. This will appear to be certain, from the reference in the "Anuyogadwara" Mula-Sutra of Aryarakshitasuri as also from the discussion in the section dealing with Padlipta's date.
