By a consensus of opinions the author of "Nirvana Kalika" is said to have flourished in or about 467-470 of the Vira Era i. e. 56-59 B. C. I am inclined to fix the life of the author as extending over the first century of Vikrama Era. Our author is connected with Aryakhaputacharya, having learnt from him "Vidya-Prabhrita". According to "Tattvadarsha" of Vijayanandasuri he flourshed in 453 Vira Era, but according to "Prabhavakacharitra" in 483 Vira Era. Haribhadrasuri, who previously wrote the commentary on Avashyaka Sutra, also mentions the same fact. Aryakhaputacharya is said to have flourished when the siege of Broach took place. We may therefore accept 453 Vira Era as a date at which Aryakhaputacharya may have flourished. According to the Jain Pattavalis 453 Vira Era was the last year of Naravahana's 60 years rule. As in the calculation of Pattavalis Ujjayani was the important place where the several dynasties For Private & Personal Use Only Introduction. 16 w.jainelibrary.org
