in the colophon that this treatise has been composed after considering the Mantras of the Siddhanta. The verses appear to give a connected account of the Installation-Ceremonies. They furnish to us a clue to what Purva literature was. It was not what is surmised to be merely the disputations of Shri Mahavira with his contemporaries, but a variety of subjects as already stated. It is probable that they formed a part of "Vidya-Pahuda", and may have been taken from "Pratishtha-Pahuda" separated by Vajraswami from the former work of Bhadrabahuswami. They thus furnish direct evidence of what "Pahuda-Granthas" were. Besides the said Gathas which look like quotations rather from "Pratishtha-Pahuda", there are Mantras in Prakrit which are probably taken from the larger work Vidya-Pahuda which as its name indicates must have dealt with various Mantras. I have already cited Jinprabhasuri's opinion on the point and have mentioned the names of "Pahudas" referred to in various works.
REFERENCE TO NIRVANA-KALIKA.
The "Prabhavaka-Charitra" mentions the present work by name, in the biography of Padliptasuri there given. The earliest work which cites the present work by name is the commentary by Siddhasenasuri (1186 A. D.) on "Pravachanasaroddhara" of Nemichandrasuri in connection with the description of atten dant Yakshas and Yakshinis, (see p. 95-1 Pravachana-Saroddhara Devachanda Lalbhai Edn.).
