JAINA ANTIQUARY.

truth, to remove prevailing doubts and suspicions to re-examine known facts impartially, to discover unknown events of history and fit them in with the known facts and to bring to light the vast ancient literature that yet remains hidden from the public view. All this we mean to accomplish by cool and patient study without distorting facts and without forcing conclusions. We are fully conscious of the difficulties which lie in our way but we also know that nothing good and great has ever been accomplished without great risks. We will do our best and we feel confident of the co-operation not only of the Jainas of all denominations, Digambaras, Svetambaras and Sthanakavasis, but also of all those belonging to India or outside, who are interested in the study of Indology. We are sure of our efforts but the measure of our achievements will depend upon the measure of co-operation that we receive. And thus only our humble venture sball crown with success, which no doubt shall be a thing of pride for the Jaina Oriental Library, Arrah and of satisfaction for that departed great soul Shriman Babu Devakumārajî, of Arrah, who founded the Library and the “Jaina Siddhanta Bhāskara," the Hindi quarterly which is being published again by his illustrious sons Messrs. Nirmal Kumarjî and Chak reswar Kumarji B. So., B.L., and of which the " Jaina Antiquary" forms a part, simply to promote the cause of Jaina Research. May the Shāgana Devas help us and the Victory be of the Great Jinas.I
