THE ALPHABET Titicaca (Bolivia-Peru). We are informed of the existence of this script by the German ethnologist Tschudi (Reisen in Sredamerika, V, 1869, p. 282 ff.). The script was invented by an old native of Sampaya who was a zealous Catholic, in order to teach his tribesmen the Catholic catechism. The writing was purely ideographic and highly pictographic.
