__२५८. केशीकुमार श्रमण की युक्ति सुनकर प्रदेशी राजा ने पुनः इस प्रकार कहा
"हे भदन्त । आपकी यह उपमा बुद्धि-कल्पित होने से मैं नहीं मानता। इससे यह सिद्ध ॐ नहीं होता है कि जीव और शरीर पृथक्-पृथक् हैं। किन्तु भदन्त ! मैंने प्रयोग करके देखा
है कि एक बार मैं अपने गणनायकों आदि के साथ बाह्य उपस्थानशाला में बैठा था। तब नगर-रक्षक एक चोर को पकड़कर लाये। मैने उस पुरुष को सभी ओर से (सिर से पैर तक) अच्छी तरह देखा-भाला, परन्तु उसमें मुझे कहीं भी जीव दिखाई नहीं दिया। इसके बाद मैंने उस पुरुष के दो टुकड़े कर दिये। टुकडे करके फिर मैंने अच्छी तरह सभी ओर से देखा। तब भी मुझे जीव नहीं दिखा। इसके बाद मैंने उसके तीन, चार यावत अनेकानेक टुकड़े किये, परन्तु उनमें भी मुझे कहीं पर जीव दिखाई नहीं दिया।
यदि भदन्त ! उस पुरुष के दो, तीन, चार अथवा अनेकानेक ट्रकडे करने पर भी मझे
कहीं जीव दिखता तो मैं यह श्रद्धा-विश्वास कर लेता कि जीव अन्य है और शरीर अन्य * है, जीव और शरीर एक नहीं है। लेकिन भदन्त ! जब मैंने उस पुरुष के दो, तीन, चार * अथवा अनेक टुकड़ो में भी जीव नहीं देखा है तो मेरी यह धारणा सुसगत-सुस्थिर बन गई
कि जीव ही शरीर है और शरीर ही जीव है। जीव और शरीर भिन्न-भिन्न नहीं है।" ।
258. After this argument of Keshi Kumar Shraman, king site Pradeshi again said as under
"Reverend Sir! I do not accept this argument as it is creation of the mind. It does not prove that soul and body are separate entities. But I had tried an experiment. Once I was sitting with my staff in the outer council chamber. The guard of the town brought a thief. I saw that thief closely and carefully from head to foot, I did not find the Jiva (soul) anywhere. I then cut him into two. I again saw the or two pieces carefully from all sides. Even then I did not find the soul anywhere. I then again cut him into three, four upto many pieces. But I did not find soul anywhere.
Sir! In case I had seen soul anytime while cutting him into two, three, four or many pieces, I could believe that soul and body are different and that they are not one. But, Sir ! When I could not see soul when he was cut into two, three, four and many pieces, I logically concluded that soul and body are the same. Soul is body and body is soul. Soul and body are not different entities."
