Keshi Kumar Shraman then said-"O Pradeshi! Once some persons who were residents of the forest, whose livelihood was based on forest (products), entered a forest of wood in search of things that grow in the forest. They had fire with them. After arriving at a place in that thick forest, they told one of their companions——O the blessed ! We go into this forest of wood. You take fire from the said vessel and prepare food for us. In case the fire extinguishes, you light the fire with this wooden stick (arania type of wood that produces fire when rubbed) and keep the cooked food ready for us.' Thereafter all the remaining persons entered the forest.”
(ख) तए णं से पुरिसे तओ मुहुत्तंतरस्स तेसिं पुरिसाणं असणं साहेमि त्ति कट्टु जेणेव जोइभायणे तेणेव उवागच्छइ । जोइभायणे जोई विज्झायमेव पासति । तए णं से पुरिसे जेणेव से कट्टे तेणेव उवागच्छइ, उवागच्छित्ता तं कट्टं सव्वओ समंता समभिलोएति, नो चेव णं तत्थ जोइं पासति । तए णं से पुरिसे परियरं बंधइ, फरसुं गिण्हइ, तं कट्टं दुहा फालियं करेइ, सव्वओ समंता समभिलोएइ, णो चेव णं तत्थ जोडूं पासइ । एवं जाव संखेज्जफालियं करेइ, सव्वओ समंता समभिलोएइ, नो चेव णं तत्थ जोइं पासइ ।
(ख) उनके चले जाने पर कुछ समय सुस्ताने के पश्चात् उस पुरुष ने विचार किया'चलो, उन लोगों के लिए जल्दी से भोजन बना लूँ।' ऐसा विचारकर वह अँगीठी के पास आया। अँगीठी में आग को बुझा हुआ देखा। तब वह जहाँ ( लकडियाँ) पडीं वहाँ आया और चारो ओर से लकडियों को अच्छी तरह देखा । किन्तु कहीं भी उसे आग दिखाई नहीं दी । तब उस व्यक्ति ने कमर कसी और कुल्हाडी लेकर उस काष्ठ के दो टुकडे कर दिये। फिर उन टुकडों को भी सभी ओर से अच्छी तरह देखा, किन्तु कहीं भी आग दिखाई नहीं दी । तब उसने तीन, चार यावत् अनेक टुकडे किये परन्तु खूब देखने पर भी उनमे कहीं आग दिखाई नहीं दी ।
(b) After their departure and after taking rest for time that person thought-'Let me prepare food for them quickly.' Then he came to the fire-vessel He found the fire already extinguished. He then came to the place where sticks were lying. He carefully saw those sticks from all sides. But he did not find fire anywhere. Then he took courage and cut that stick into two. He again saw the two pieces carefully from all sides but he did not see fire anywhere.
