लौह-वणिक् दुराग्रही केशीकुमार श्रमण ने दृष्टान्त देते हुए कहा
"(१) चार वणिक् धन प्राप्ति के लिए निकले। मार्ग मे उन्हे लोहे की खान मिली तो चारो ने लोहे की पोटलियाँ बाँध ली।
(२) आगे चलने पर तॉबे, चाँदी, सोना आदि की खाने मिली तो तीन ने लोहा छोडकर ताँबा, तांबा छोडकर चाँदी, चॉदी छोडकर सोने की गठरियाँ बाँध ली। किन्तु चौथा अपनी पुरानी वस्तु के मोह पर ही अडा रहा।
(३) जब हीरो की खान मिली तो तीनो ने तो सोना छोडकर हीरे की गठरियाँ बाँध ली, किन्तु चौथा अपनी जिद्द पर अडा लोहे की पोटली ही ढोता रहा।
(४) नगर मे जाकर तीनो ने अपना माल बेचा, खूब धन कमा लिया और वैभव-विलासपूर्ण जीवन जीने लगे। चौथा लौह-वणिक् तो लोहा बेचकर फेरी वाला ही बना रहा। जब उसने उन तीनो का वैभव देखा तो वह अपने अडियल स्वभाव पर पछताने लगा।'

"(1) Four merchants set out for business On the way they found an iron ore mine and they all collected iron ore in their bags
(2) On their journey ahead, one after another, they found copper, silver and gold mines Three of the merchants progressively exchanged iron ore for copper ore, copper ore for silver ore and silver ore for gold ore but the fourth one stuck to his fondness for his old possession of iron ore
(3) When the group found a diamond mine the first three exchanged their gold ore with diamonds but the fourth one was adamant on his decision of carrying his load of iron
(4) Reaching a city the first three merchants sold their merchandise, earned a lot of wealth and lived in grandeur and comfort The fourth one sold his iron and with his meager earning became a poor vendor When he saw the grandeur of his three companions he repented for his mulish nature"
