________________ Classification of Poetry 965 The Cirantanas as quoted in the A.bh. (pp. 181, Ch. IV. NS. G.O.S. ibid) describe sidgaka as - “sakhyāḥ samakşam bhartur yad uddhatam vịttam ucyate, massnam ca kvacid, dhūrta-caritam, şidgakas tu saḥ.” șidgaka is one in which before a friend there is description (by nāyikā) of the uddhața-vịtta i.e. rough behaviour or infidelity of the husband. At times there is description of the graceful behaviour also of a dhūrta nāyaka. Nothing beyond this is given regarding șidgaka. H. has singaka or singataka. 'Singaka' is described as above from the A.bh. In his Viveka (pp. 445, ibid) H. has - "trividho hi geyakāvyasya prayogah; masrnah, uddhato miśraś ca. H. says that in dombik, we have 'sukumāram eva śuddham rūpam.' This means that the presentation is of the graceful type in dombikā. It is said to be forceful or uddhata as in bhānaka such as Nrsimhādicarita-varnana. It is possible H. says that even in graceful some element of forceful also enters. In such a mixed variety-miśra form there is difference as to the more or less proportion of - either. Prasthāna' has major portion of masrna, and singataka has major portion of uddhata i.e. forceful. H. notices such mixtures in other varieties also. He follows some hints from the Abh. Vāgbhata II has singaka defined after H. and follows şidgaka of the Cirantanas in the A.bh. Śäradātanaya has silpaka defined as seen earlier. The NLRK. also seems to follow BP. Silpaka in NLRK (pp. 287, ibid) runs as - atha silpakam - brāhmaṇa-nāyakópetaḥ. yathā kanakāvatī-mādhavaḥ śmaśānasankulaḥ, anudāttopa-nāyaka-bhūșitaḥ, kaiśikī-bhāratī-sāttvaty ārabhatīti caturvștti-virājitaḥ, caturanka-bhūșitaḥ, sarva-rasa-pūjitaḥ. tasya ca saptavimśatir angāni. yathā - utkanthā, avahittham, prayatnah, grathanam, āśamsā, tarkah, samsayah, tāpaḥ, udvegaḥ, maugdhyam, ālasyam, apratipattiḥ, vilāpaḥ, vāmyam, anugamanam, vismayaḥ, sādhanam, ucсhvāsaḥ, camatkāraḥ, sūnyatvam, pralobhaḥ, vaiśāradyam, samphetaḥ, āśvāsanam, bodhanam, praharṣaḥ, praśastir iti. 'utkanthā' is - tatra ramanīya-vastu-visaye abhilāśah - i.e. aspiring for a beautiful thing. as in Sakuntala, "suddhānta-durlabham. idam vapur... (śā. I. 15).
