He appears to have taken pascima- in the sense of 'west. But paścima- can be taken to mean 'behind' also and Our rendering appears more appropriate in the light of occurrences in MP. and elsewhere. PSM. padohara-= 'the backyard of a house'; cf. purohada-, pacchokada- (Sātavāhana)= avstamahivastuvācaka-, 'an enclosed site or house' (D.6 15); PSM. notes purohada= agradvāra-, 'the front door' and quotes from Oghaniryukti in support.
