Cf. mandıra-= śğnkhalam, 'a chain' and manthana, 'a churing stick' (D. 6 141); Hemacandra has given śộnkhalam as one of the meanings of "mandira-". He probably means the same thing as 'metal ring to strengthen the churning stick etc.' and not mere 'chain'. Because generally there are metal rings round the churning tick.
