A. D. The contents of the Prabandhas are analysed in details, and the Adipurana of Jinasena is shown to be the main source for them. The Gita-Govinda of Jayadeva has served as a model for the GV; both of them are compared and contrasted. The metres used in this poem are duly tabulated.
This edtion has its limitations. It is hoped that some expert in Sangīta will study the Aṣṭakas and shed light on their metrical and stylistic qualities.
My thanks are due to all those who lent me the material and allowed me to keep the same with me for nearly thirty years. The credit of getting this work edited by me has to go to my colleague Dr. Hiralalji Jain, who was keen that it should be published as early as possible.

I record my sincere gratitudes to Shriman Shanti Prasadaji Jain and to Shrimati Ramaji for their patronage to the Manikachandra D. Jaina Granthamālā, in which the unpublished works in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Apabhramsa, etc., are seeing the light of day and thus their authors are being rescued from oblivion.
Panditācārya completed the GV in Śravana Beļagoļa (Mysore); and it is a happy coincidence that I am completing this edition in Mysore on the quiet and inspiring campus of the University of Mysore, so significantly called "Manasa Gangotri".
