पर्व राहु और नित्य राहु

कृष्णवर्णीय राहु का विमान चन्द्रमा से चार अंगुल दूर नीचे रहकर हमेशा चन्द्रमा के साथ चलता राहु के संयोग से चन्द्रमा के साथ कैसी-कैसी स्थितियाँ उत्पन्न होती हैं, उस आधार पर राहु को दो भागों में बाँटा गया है
(1) पर्व राहु - जब राहु किसी-किसी समय अपने विमान से चन्द्रमा को ढक देता है उस समय
"ग्रहण हुआ" ऐसा कहा जाता है। यह राहु जघन्य से छह मास में और उत्कृष्ट 42 मास में चन्द्र को आवृत करता है। यह ग्रहण तीन प्रकार से होता है - (अ) जब राहु का विमान चन्द्र के एक भाग को ढँक देता है तो उसे खण्डग्रास ग्रहण कहते हैं। (ब) जब राहु का विमान चन्द्र विमान को बीच से ढँक लेता है और चारों तरफ से एक चूड़ी की आकृति में चन्द्र विमान दिखाई देता है तो उसे कंकणकृति ग्रहण कहते हैं। (स) जब राहु चन्द्र को पूरी तरह ढँक लेता है तो उसे खग्रास ग्रहण कहते हैं।
(2) नित्य राहु - चन्द्रमा के सोलह भाग ( अंश - कला) हैं। कृष्णपक्ष में राहु प्रतिदिन चन्द्रमा के
एक-एक भाग को आच्छादित करता जाता है । अमावस्या तक वह पन्द्रह भागों को आच्छादित कर देता है और शुक्लपक्ष में प्रतिपदा से लेकर पूर्णिमा तक प्रतिदिन एक-एक भाग को अनावृत (खुला) करता जाता है और पूर्णिमा तक चन्द्र के 15 भागों को अनावृत कर देता है।

PARVA RAHU AND NITYA RAHU
The black celestial vehicle of Rahu remains four Anguls (finger width) below the moon and moves with it. According to the consequences of moon's association with it, Rahu is said to be of two kinds
(1) Parva Rahu (occasional Rahu)-When Rahu occasionally covers the moon or the sun. This happens after a minimum gap of six months and a maximum gap of fortytwo months for the moon and forty eight years for the sun. These are called lunar and solar eclipses. There are three types of eclipses - (a) when Rahu covers a portion of the moon it is called Khandagraas (partial eclipse). (b) When Rahu covers the moon in center and moon looks like a ring it is called Kankamakriti Grahan. (c) When Rahu completely covers the moon it is called Khagras.
(2) Nitya Rahu (regular Rahu ) - The moon is hypothetically divided into 16 fractions (ansh or kala). Rahu keeps on covering one fraction of the circle of moon everyday of the dark fortnight of a month in increasing order; on the fifteenth day it covers all 15 fractions. In the same way from the first day of the bright fortnight to the full moon night every day additional 15th fraction of the moon becomes visible.
