6. Forms ending in a consonant are not used; for the Sûtra
'अन्त्यहलोश्रदुदि' teaches that the final consonant of words is dropped except in the case of the indeclinable ma and the preposition 35; the Sûtra 'FETA' teaches that IT and words of a similar nature, i. e. words ending in a consonant, have the augment 3 necessarily added to their final consonant; the Sûtra este teaches that roots ending in a consonant take the augment 37; and other Sûtras teach either the elision of the final consonant, or the addition of an augment or a substitute for the
final letter, 7. The genders of words in the Pråkrita are sometimes the
reverse of those of the Sanskrit words from which the Prâkrita words are derived. The Sûtra TESIOLENT ATT' teaches that words synonymous with safe and the words gry and others are optionally masculine; the Sûtra 'sta गुणगाः ' teaches that गुण and other words are optionally neuter; and the Sûtra 'feathHTSTREIT: ' teaches that words
ending in c#, and safe and others are optionally feminine. 8. There is no rule about roots taking the Parasmaipada and
the Atmanepada terminations; that is, any root takes either pada. This is learnt from the Sûtra' efnafasta which means that the third person singular terminations of the Present Tense, both Par. and Atm., viz. a and a, are changed to and g; the Sûtra 'PATETEART' which teaches that the second person singular terminations to and थासू are changed to सि and से; the Sutra 'मिर्मिबिटौ' which means that the 1st person singular terminations and are changed to A; and other Sûtras which teach
the substitution of &c. for a &c. 9. The factor terminations, i. e. the conjugational signs, like
TU (84) &c., are not added. This is taught by the Sûtra
7791!. 10. The Dative is not used, its place being taken up by the
Genitive; and any case is sometimes used in the sense of any other case. This is learnt from the following Sâtras :
