________________ 50 Suryakanta' jewel. If we were to thouroughly make a comprative study of the text and its commentary it is distinctly realized that even the commentator is an unparallaled disputatant as is the case with the anthor. The cmmentator is expert in grmmar andt philosophy. Then what to say about (his knowledge of ) Jainism? There in he was a preceptor, endowed with divine knowledge an extraordinary exponent of 'syadvada' and well known and proficient in reconciling all 'darsanas' with 'syadvada.' Even the gloss named as Visamapadavivecana' is given in this edition. This work (Nayacakra ) is extremely difficult for ordinary students. It is very hard to understand the essences inner substance contained in it. For this reason our excellent teacher who has edited this work by immensely exerting himself in spite of his old age, has elucidated by means of his gloss such topics as appeared to him to be difficult and intricate the topics treated in the text and its commentary. Our highly respected, venerable and excellent teacher who is conversant with the six systems of (Indian ) philosophy is not only an author of many works and a poet but he is a thorough scholar of many subjects. Even today the diligent uninterrupted inclination, study and devotion to learning of this great and virtuous personage put even young men to shame. In spite of this old age he obliges himself and others by composing new works in various languages. Further, he is a great votary of scriptural knowledge and makes his pupil ardent devotees of the same. If he had not undertaken to edit this work. I would not have gained even what little knowledge I could get from it. The three revered personages by Mallavadin Suri, who is the author of this work and who is a lion amongst disputants, the commentator and the glossator have obliged the entire mankind. I have dealt with many a topic associated with Mallavadin Ksamasramana, an excellent preceptor and Dvadasaranayacakra on the basis of materials I have come across during my study. This is my first attempt to write and think in this way. I am conscious of my imperfections that have crept in this undertaking of mine. I shall consider my labour as fructified provided the materials presented by me as an humble student of history bcome useful to scholars in coming to the right decision even in a small measure. I request scholars to judge impartially and I make an humble recommendation to rectify my errors and to highly enlighten us. I conclude this introduction by expressing my desire that learned readers by studying this great work Jewel pertaining to philosophy may accomplish complete development of the doctrine of non-absolutism and thereby fructify the labour of the great sage, the editor.
