Śrāvakabhūmi and nirmānao), the three svabhāvas?, the nirvāṇa', the gotradoctrines, the tatāgatagarbhat and the alayavijñānas doctrines have been presented in the light of the Mādhyamika exposition of sūnyata and the Yogācāra concept of āśrayaparāvștti?
In the MSA, Maitreyanātha gives a thorough presentation of the Mahāyāna doctrines and the Yogācāra idealism. Asanga in his commentary gives a comprehensive account of the gotra (III), paripāka (VIII), bodhi (IX), bodhipaksa (XVIII), vaiśāradya, nairātmya (XVIII. 92 sq.), buddhakāya, upāyakausalya (XV), āśraya parāvștti (IX. 45-46), the threefold reality (the parikalpita, paratantra and the parinişpanna lakṣaṇa (XI. 38-41) and the buddhakāya-doctrine (IX. 55-67). Asanga profusely quotes from the Mahāyāna Sūtras and supports the views of his preceptor. He also gives a thorough analysis of the Buddhist canon, especially the Abhidharmas, as it is intimately connected with his exposition of Mahāyāna. Asanga regards the Abhidharma as the background of the Mahāyānic stage.
