upper portion of the throat, which also is the centre of the brain. This channel is called Sushumna Nadi. The left channel is called Ida or Chandra Nadi as it is controlled by moon, which also signifies coolness of the body. The third one is called Pingala or Surya Nadi i.e. Sun channel which is the physical energy of the body and controls the heart. When the practice is advanced in Pranayama, one attains the flow in the Sushumna Nadi or the central channel. Physically the flow can be gauged as follows: When the breath flows in the left nostrils it is called Chandra Nadi. When it flows on the right nostrill it is called Suyra Nadi. When flows in both nostrils it is called Sushmna Nadi. There is a separate science based on the flow of the nadis". (ibid, p. 24).
"In the Central Channel - Sushumna Nadi. - are the charkas or the centers of energy.
In the Tantric texts six such Chakras or Shat Chakras are mentioned. Mooladhara is at the end of the spine from where three channels originate. Here the energy starts to flow up. All the basic human natures come out this place.
Swadhishtana is just one inch above the Mooladhara Chakra. This is the place for the Ego or the feeling of self which is hence called swadhishtana.
Manipoora is exactly behind the naval in the spinal cord. In this Chakra both the mind and Chita or the impress ional and vasanas are omstalled. Anahata is in the center of the heart slightly at the right side and it is here that the feelings and sensations are situated.
Visuddhi is at the place of the thyroids below the neck. There is a special nadi just below the chakra, which is responsible for dreaming. 28 જૈનસાહિત્ય
