(And, in those writings, figure scores of jolting abbreviations and countless footnotes, several of which refer only to old writers and writings in German whose works are neither available, nor understood in the original, in India. And some of the content of their writings is today obsolete in view of the new material that subsequently came to light as also due to the results of the fresh historical investigations.)

द्रुमपुष्पितम् धम्मो मंगलमुक्कट्ठ अहिंसा संजमो तपो । देवावि तं नमसंति जस्स धम्मे सदा मनो ॥१॥ जथा दुमस्स पुप्फेहि भमरो आवियती रसं । न च पुष्र्फ किलामेति सो य पीनेति अप्पगं ॥२॥ एमए समणा मुत्ता जे लोगे संत्ति साधुनो । विहंगमा व पुप्फेहिं दानभत्तेसने रता ॥३॥ वयं च वित्तिं लब्भामो न च कोई उवहम्मती । अहाकडेहि रीयंते पुप्फेहिं भमरा जथा ॥४॥ मधुकरा समा बुध्धा जे भवंति अनिस्सिता । नानापिंडरता दंता तेन बुच्चंति साधुनो ॥५।
