________________ Foreword With this fourth part the publication of Svayambhûs' Ritthaņemicariya also called Harivassapurāņa is completed. This part contains a portion of the Uttarakamda. In the manuscripts Sandhis 93 to 112 cover the Uttarakamda. But the present part, eventhough it is the last part gives the text up to Sandhi 103 only. The reason for omitting the remaining Sandhis is stated in the Preface. At the time of the publication of this number of the P. T. S. Series, it is very sad that Dalsukhbhai Malvania is no more with us. He passed away on the 28th January. He was the architect of the Prakrit Text Society. His loss is irrepairable for the Indology. We thank Dr. R. Tomar for waiting for several years. With this part the publication of Svayambhu's great epic is completed. - H. C. Bhayani General Editor Preface In the Introduction to Svayambhū's Paumacariya (Part I PP. 18-20, 42-44 : SJS, No. 34, 1953), I have shown that there were three hands in the composition of the Uttarakamda of the Ritthaņemicariya. Saṁdhis 93 to 99 are by Svayambhū. Samdhis 100 to 104 are by Svayambhū's son Tribhuvana. Samdhis 105 to 112 are by Tribhuvana and Yaśahkirti Bhattāraka who flourished in the fifteenth century. This information we can gather from the colophons given at the end of Samdhis 100 to 112 (see Paumacariya, Part 1. Introduction, p. 125-127). Svayambhū's own statement clearly says that his muse was tired. This implies that due to failing health he could not complete the Aritthanemicariya and possibly shortly he passed away. It seems that some parts of the Samdhis 105 to 112 were missing in the manuscript that used by Yaśahkirti Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.orgPage Navigation
