________________ ACHYUTANANDA DASH SAMBODHI samavāya ghatatva - samavāya -ghata ekatvam ghata ghataḥ samavāya! = vrtti-bhāsya-sassarga*l samavāya? = ākānkṣā-bhāsya-saṁsarga. The vrtti-bhāsya-samsarga presents the 'word-meaning and the ākārksabhāsya-saṁsarga gives the sābdabodha. The First Sentence, therefore, is accepted as the first principle (vyutpatti = niyama-viseșa) in śābdabodha. Why the principle namely: “Sabdabodhe caikapadārthe 'parapadārthasya sassargaḥ sassargamaryādayā bhāsate" is accorded with? There is a very lengthy śāstrārtha (śāstric debate) seen on this question. That follows mainly on the following lines: (a) To refute the thesis Anvitābhidhāna-vāda of the Prābhākaras (b) To refute the thesis Abhihitānvaya-vāda of the Bhāttas. (c) To refute the thesis Sphota-vāda of the Grammarians. This is very significant in establishing the Samsargamaryādā-vāda of the Naiyayikas and that is achieved by the reinterpretation of the particle ca in the first sentence of W. The Dynamism of the particle ca : All commentators opine that ca is used in the same sense that of the particle tu. The particle tu means 'to distinguish', 'to differentiate something / some concept from the other'or 'to contradict the others views'.Page Navigation
