________________ (31) and Nanna had served as ministers. If Bharata and Nanna are assigned the period prior to the year 705 [ 783 A. D. ), then Puspadanta, the great poet, also deserves to be assigned the date similar to that of Bharat and Nanna. Poet Pușpadanta has referred to the Dhavalā and the Jayadhavala of Ācārya Virasena and Acārya Jinasena respectively. On account of this reference to the two works, Ācārya Virasena, Ācārya Jinasena and king Amoghavarşa, the desciple of Ācārya Jinasena deserve to be assigned a date prior to that of king Kịşnarāja, the father of king Dhruvarāja who had come to the throne in the year 701 of the śālivāhana saka era. King Kļşparāja had expired in the year 694 of the salivāhana saka era. According to the Praśasti of the Dhavalā, king Boddaņarāya alias king Amoghavarşa, had been on the throne in the year 593 of the śālivāhana saka era. He had come to the throne in the year 736 of the Vikrama era i, e. in the year 591 of the śālivāhana saka era. One copperplate which was got inscribed by king Dantidurga, the predecessor of king śubhatunga who was the father of king Krşparāja alias king Akalavarşa, records the year 553 of the Sālivāhana sāka era as the date of the inscription. From this it can be inferred that king Dantidurga was on the throne upto the year 591 of the śālivāhana saka era. Similarly it can be inferred that king Dantidurga might have assumed the title Jagattunga and king Subhatunga might have assumed the titles Amoghavarşa and Nộpatunga. Boddaņarāya might have been the domestic name of king Amoghavarşa. In my opinion, therefore, king Amoghavarşa, the son of king Govindarāja III, was not the first king of that name, but the third one, king śubhatunga and the son of king Nirupama being the first and the second king respectively assuming that very title. I have come to the conclusion that king subhatunga, who might have assumed the title "Amoghavarşa', was the contemporary of Acārya Jinasena and king Dantidurga who Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
