VIII. i. I. The word step in this has two meanings; it means * after ' or ' now,' 1. e. after giving a complete treatment of Sanskrit grammar; it also indicates the opening of a new topic, viz, Prakrit. Hemacandra's system of grammar consists of eight chapters, the first seven deal with Sanskrit grammar and the last chapter with six dialects of Prakrit, viz., ATEITIE", TITETTI, Flora, izrai, aisa tai and STÁT. The word Prakrit is derived from sea which, according to the auther, means Sanskrit. Hennracai a.... Hemacandra classifies Prakrit word into 75T, 7h and Safi. He would not speak of acaa as he has already treated of them in the preceding chapters. He does not speak of gari words here, but discusses only तद्भव words of both types, सिद्ध and साध्यA1a. Prakrit does not use 75, , 2, , 34, 3, 27, 37, 9, fahri, 197, consonant without vowel, dual and Dative plural.
2. grecs means ' generally', there being many execptions to every rule in Prakrit.
3. The Prakrit of the wigs is called to which also generally follows these rules. By 3 Hemacandra understands अर्धमागधी.
4. वृत्ति means समास or compound where as short vowel takes the place of a long vowel and vice versa. areas, sk. aflhfa, water-like sense, and a gia: @ HFFSETS3 ISHT SEAT, sk. Faaraitalealaati harSF.
5. Giàst, sk. Antia; Qafla, sk. saqarah.
