________________ NOTES - VIII. iv. 357-358. "In one eye of the fair lady the month of has settled while in another the month of H. On her couch the spring (as the bed was made of tender leaves); on her cheeks the autumn, on her limbs the summer and if in the field ·of sesamum of मुखासिका ( sitting at ease ), the winter ( शिशिर ) on her lotus-like face." The meaning is that the lady is shedding tears profusely like the rain in the months of and भाद्रपद she got a bed of leaves as in the spring; her cheeks are pale as the clouds (or flower) in the autumn; her limbs a e warm as in summer; her sitting at ease is all shattered like the field of sesamum in the month of मा 'शीर्ष and her face is withered like the lotus in winter. The commentary on this passage is interesting and runs thus : - अनयोरर्थः । तस्याः मुग्धाया एकस्मिन्नगि श्रावण : अन्यस्मिन् अक्षिण भाद्रपदः । को भावः । यथा एनौ द्वौ मासौ स्त्राविणौ तथाक्षिद्रयमप्यश्रुजलला वित्वान्मासद्वयतुल्यम् । महीतलस्रस्तरे माधवो वसन्तः । पलवमयत्वात् । गण्डस्थले शरत् । तस्याः काशकुसुमानि पाण्डुत्त्रात् । अङ्गेषु ग्रीष्मः तापबाहुल्यात् । सुखासिकातिलवने मार्गशीर्षः । यथा मार्गशीर्षे तिलवनानामुच्छेदः स्यात्तथा सुखावस्थानस्योच्छेदः । मुखपङ्कजे शिशिरः आवासितः । यथा शिशिरे पङ्कजानां म्लानत्वं तथा मुखपङ्कजस्यापि स्त्रीणां वियोगावस्थायां एतानि चिह्नानि स्युः । Here in this verse we have एक्कहिं and अन्नर्हि as Loc. sing. forms. 44 हृदय स्फुट टिति ( शब्द ) कृत्वा कालक्षेण किम् । पश्यामि हतविधिः क्व स्थापयति त्वया विना दुःखशतानि ॥ " 0 heart, burst with noise; why delay ? I shall see at what place (other than thyself) would the ill luck keep these hundreds of miseries (that thou art experiencing at present.)" We get here as Loc. sing. 358. The pronouns यत्, तत् and किम् ending in अ have आसु as Gen. sing. termination. कान्तः अस्मदीयः हला सखिके निश्चयेन रुष्यति यस्य ( = यस्मै ) | अस्त्रैः शस्त्रैः हस्तैरपि स्थानमपि स्फोटयति तस्य ॥ "" My husband, when certainly angry with some one, O friend, breaks even the place the enemy occupies by means
