Charity to the deserving all renounced
bravītyanukampāsamyuktaḥ || 69 ||
katham apātre/
But, how can the charity to the undeserving
compassionate monks is meritorious |
and violent be called meritorious? || 69 ||
69. The charity given to the deserving all renounced righteous and compassionate monks certainly earns merit. But, how can the charity given to the undeserving (sinful, possessive and unrighteous) mendicants be called meritorious? Meaning that it earns no merit for the giver.
In this verse, the author clarifies that it is only the charity to the desrving that earns merit for the giver.
