________________ OK. P. Verma and experienced teachers. The school is well-equipped with all the modern facilities of education; large Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Botany laboratories are there. It has a computer centre to impart training to students. its library has nearly 20,000 books. The Vidyalaya runs methodically all its sections - Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary (Plus Two stream). Now more additions have been made to them. One is the National Open School, classes X and XII, for girls. Another is the C.A. Foundation Course classes, Shree jain Vidyalaya has recently been affiliated to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to teach C.A. Foundation courses. These courses are run daily after 4-30 p.m. There are also classes for Arts and Handicrafts for girls students on Saturdays and Sundays. In this way, the school building is vibrant with activities right from 6-30 a.m. to 8-45 p.m. everyday. A SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE Indeed, Shree Jain Vidyalaya is a school with a difference. Started with the motto of Shiksha (Education), Seva (Service) and Sadhana (Dedication) six decades ago by Shree Swetambar Sthanakvasi. Jain Sabha, the school has stuck to these noble purposes. They have been vigilant in imparting and spreading good education. The Vidyalaya bears the name "Shree Jain" no doubt. but it is open to students of all castes and creeds. So students from different religions and social communities, including Muslims and Christians are here every year. It is heartening to watch students right from an industrial tycoon's family to a poor peon's home or a hawker's son. Thus, the Vidyalaya is serving the purpose for which it was started. The emblem of the school carries three principles, Samyak Darshan (right perception), Samyak Gyan (right knowledge) and Samyak Charitra (right conduct). Every effort is made to see that these noble principles are inclucated into the day-to-day activities of every student. With this end in view moral classes are held and great scholars and saints are invited from time to time to preach, so that by their right perception and conduct they may be object lessons to our students. So here we put great emphasis on right conduct and discipline. Discipline, we want not to be imposed, but to become ingrained as a part and parcel of life. This is popularly called by the local people and students SJVian culture. The Vidyalaya has come a long way since its inception. Ever since it shifting to its present premises (18/D, Sukeas Lane, Brabourne Road, Calcutta-1) in 1958, the Vidyalaya has carved out a niche for itself among great and prestigious institutions of the State, in terms of its pass records at Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Examinations first divisions, high marks and ranks each year. Not only in these examinations but also in IIT, JEE, C.A., Costing and other professional examinations, our students qualify in appreciably large numbers. Today, we may say with great pride that our former students are doing very well in every field. The spirit of srvice can be felt in the various activities and regulations of the Vidyalaya. The management of the school is so munificient that it grants even 10 percent of its total roll strength full free and half free studentships to needy students and it has kept the tuition fees of all classes much lower than what other institutions of equal standards charge when the Vidyalaya has on its staff most qualified I must admit that we suffer from space constraints. हीरक जयन्ती स्मारिका विद्यालय खण्ड / १२ Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
