सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र in
कोई भिक्षाचरी में (भिक्षा हेतु जाने में) आलस्य करता है, तो कोई अपमान से डरता है तो कोई स्तब्ध ढीठ होता है। हेतु और कारणों से गुरु किसी को अनुशासित करते हैं तो- ॥ १०॥
Some is lethargic in (going for) seeking alms, some is apprehensive of insult and some is obstinate. When the guru disciplines some one with cause and reason then-(10)
सो वि अन्तरभासिल्लो, दोसमेव पकुव्वई।
आयरियाणं तं वयणं, पडिकूलेइ अभिक्खणं॥११॥ वह बीच में ही बोलने लगता है। गुरु (आचार्य) के वचनों में दोष निकालने लगता है। इतना ही नहीं बार-बार आचार्य के वचन के प्रतिकूल आचरण करता है॥ ११॥ ___He (wicked disciple) interferes and finds fault with the guru's statements. Not only this, he frequently acts contrary to the instructions of the guru. (11)
न सा ममं वियाणाइ, न वि सा मज्झ दाहिई।
निग्गया होहिई मन्ने, साहू अन्नोऽत्थ वच्चउ॥१२॥ - भिक्षा लाने के समय कोई शिष्य गृहस्वामिनी के सम्बन्ध में कहता है-वह मुझे नहीं जानती है, वह मुझे कुछ नहीं देगी। मैं समझता हूँ, वह घर से बाहर निकल गई होगी। अतः इसके लिए अच्छा होगा कि कोई दूसरा साधु चला जाये॥१२॥
(When asked to go for alms some disciple makes lame excuses about the donor lady-) She does not know me; she will give me nothing; I think she must have gone out of her home; therefore it is better that some other ascetic goes for begging. (12)
प्रेसिया पलिउंचन्ति, ते परियन्ति समन्तओ।
रायवेटिंठ व मन्नन्ता, करेन्ति भिउडिं मुहे॥१३॥ किसी कार्य से भेजने पर बिना कार्य किये लौट आते हैं और अपलाप करते हैं। इधर-उधर घूमते हैं। गुरु की आज्ञा को राजा द्वारा ली जाने वाली बेगार (वेट्ठि-वेष्टि) मानकर मुँह पर भृकुटि चढ़ा लेते हैं॥१३॥
If sent on an errand, they return without performing the assigned task and feed wrong information. They stroll about aimlessly. They treat the order of guru like forced labour sought by a ruler, and knit their brows. (13)
वाइया संगहिया चेव, भत्तपाणे य पोसिया।
जायपक्खा जहा हंसा, पक्कमन्ति दिसोदिसिं॥१४॥ जैसे पंख आने पर हंस दशों दिशाओं-विभिन्न दिशाओं में उड़ जाते हैं उसी प्रकार शिक्षित-दीक्षित एवं भक्त-पान से पोषित किये गये कुशिष्य भी स्वेच्छाचारी बनकर इधर-उधर घूमते हैं॥ १४॥
The wicked disciples, even after being well taught, initiated and nourished with food and drink, move around footloose like swans that fly away in all directions when their wings grow. (14)
अह सारही विचिन्तेइ, खलुंकेहि समागओ। किं मज्झ दुट्ठसीसेहिं, अप्पा मे अवसीयई॥१५॥
