सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्रत
ये छत्तीस भेद (प्रकार) खर (कठोर) पृथ्वीकाय के कहे गये हैं। उन दोनों (पृथ्वीकाय के भेदों) में सूक्ष्म पृथ्वीकाय अनानात्व (अनेक प्रकार के भेदों से रहित) एक ही प्रकार की कही गयी है॥७७॥
These are said to be the thirty-six kinds of hard earth-bodied beings. Of the said two kinds (of earth-bodied beings) the minute earth-bodied beings are said to be of one kind only. (77)
सुहुमा सव्वलोगम्मि, लोगदेसे य बायरा।
इत्तो कालविभागं तु, तेसिं वुच्छं चउव्विहं॥७८॥ सूक्ष्म पृथ्वीकायिक जीव समस्त लोक में व्याप्त हैं किन्तु बादर पृथ्वीकायिक जीव लोक के एक देश में ही हैं। अब यहाँ से आगे मैं इन (पृथ्वीकायिक जीवों) के चार प्रकार के काल विभाग का वर्णन करूँगा॥ ७८॥
Minute earth-bodied species are spread all over the universe (Lok) while gross ones are only in one part of it. Now I will describe their (gross earth-bodied beings) fourfold divisions with regard to time. (78)
संतई पप्पऽणाईया, अपज्जवसिया वि य।
ठिई पडुच्च साईया, सपज्जवसिया वि य॥७९॥ संतति-प्रवाह की अपेक्षा पृथ्वीकायिक जीव अनादि-अनन्त हैं और स्थिति की अपेक्षा सादि-सान्त भी हैं॥ ७९ ॥
In context of continuity these earth-bodied beings are beginningless and endless. However in context of existence at a particular place they have a beginning as well as an end. (79)
बावीससहस्साइं, वासाणुक्कोसिया भवे।
आउठिई पुढवीणं, तन्तोमुहत्तं जहन्निया॥८०॥ पृथ्वीकायिक जीवों की उत्कृष्ट आयुस्थिति बाईस हजार वर्ष है और जघन्य आयु स्थिति अन्तर्मुहूर्त की होती है। ८०॥
The maximum life-span of earth-bodied beings is twenty-two thousand years and minimum is of one Antarmuhurt (less than forty-eight minutes.) (80)
असंखकालमुक्कोसं, अन्तोमुहुत्तं जहन्नयं।
कायठिई पुढवीणं, तं कायं तु अमुंचओ॥८१॥ पृथ्वीकायिक जीव, यदि पृथ्वीकाय को न छोड़कर उसी में जन्म-मरण करते रहें तो इस अपेक्षा से उनकी उत्कृष्ट कायस्थिति असंख्यात काल की होती है तथा जघन्य कायस्थिति अन्तर्मुहूर्त की होती है।। ८१॥
If earth-bodied beings continue to die and get reborn in the same state without leaving their body-type, then the maximum life-span for the body-type is immeasurable time and minimum is of one Antarmuhurt. (81)
