________________ [ 437 ] GIANT 3787477 सचित्र उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र It is the duty of the aspirant to consider means as just that only and utilize them only with this angle. He should not allow feelings of fondness, possession and craving for them to arise in his mind. Renouncing attachment-aversion, infatuation, unrighteousness, fondness and other such sentiments is essential for liberation from worldly miseries and gaining exclusive spiritual bliss. Stupor also includes desire of having disciples. It is not proper for an aspirant to make disciples for providing physical comforts, facilities and other personal services. Although an aspirant needs assistants, they could be chosen from his colleague ascetics and disciples. But it is necessary for the assistant to be competent in codes of conduct and capable of assisting in spiritual practices. If such assistant is not available, an aspirant should embrace knowledge-faith-conduct and move about alone. Avoiding the areas of stupor an aspirant should move on the path of detachment. Only a detached aspirant attains liberation. The chapter has 111 verses.
