________________ CHAPTER FOUR 155 Ratipriya, Ratiśreștha. The type Kimpurusa is divided into ten subtypes—viz. Puruşa, Satpuruşa, Mahāpurusa, Purusavrsabha, Purusottam, Atipuruṣa, Marudeva, Maruta, Meruprabha and Yaśasvat. The type of Mahoraga is divided into ten sub-types—viz. Bhujaga, Bhogaśālin, Mahākāya, Atikāya, Skandhaśālin, Manorama, Mahāvega, Mahesvakşa, Merukānta and Bhāsvat. The Gāndharvas have got twelve sub-types—viz. Hāhā, Hūhū, Tumburava, Nārada, Ķsivādika, Bhūtavādika, Kādamba, Mahākādamba, Raivata, Viśvāvasu, Gītarati, Gītayasas. The Yakşas have got thirteen subtypes—viz. Pūrņabhadra, Maribhadra, Svetabhadra, Haribhadra, Sumanobhadra, Vyatipātikabhadra, Sübhadra, Sarvatobhadra, Manusyayakşa, Vanādhipati, Vanāhāra, Rūpayaksa and Yaksottama. The Rāksasas have got seven sub-types-viz. Bhima, Mahābhīma, Vighna, Vināyaka, Jalarākṣasa, Rākşasa, Brahmarāksasa. The Bhūtas have got nine sub-types—viz. Surūpa, Pratirūpa, Atirūpa, Bhūtottama, Skandika, Mahāskandika, Mahāvega, Praticchanna, Akāśaga. The Piśācas have got fifteen sub-types-viz. Kūşmānda, Pataka, Josa, Āhnaka, Kāla, Mahākāla, Cauksa, Acauksa, Tālapiśāca, Mukharapiśāca, Adhastāraka, Deha, Mahāvideha, Tüsnīka, Vanapiśāca. The eight types of Vyantaras have respectively got for their symbol Asoka, Campaka, Nāga, Tumbaru, Vața, Khatvānga?, Sulasa, Kadambaka. All these symbols, barring Khatvānga, are of the form of a species of tree and all are affixed in the ornament etc. of the type of Vyantara concerned. 12. The Five Types of Jyotiska : The region of the circle of Jyotiskas begins at a height of 790 yojanas above the even ground-level of the mountain Meru; beginning from there the region is 110 yojanas thick, while in the transverse direction its extent equals that of asankhyāta continents and oceans.
