twenty-four shares, with twenty (other) shares as vitti for doing service in the dēvadāna, making a total of two hundred and forty-four shares, (and that for this purpose) Kūdalūr in Murappunādu and the villages comprising Kilai-Kudalur situated within the four boundaries, the eastern boundary being to the west of the river Tan-Porundam, the southern boundary being to the north of the boundary of Muttalan kuruchchi alias Rājasimhamangalam and of Sēñalur alias Tiruvaranga-chaturvēdimangalam, the western boundary being to the east of the channel of this Murappu-nädu named Sundarapāņdiyan-tennāru, and the northern boundary being to the south of the river Tan-Porundam, consisting of wet lands (nir-nilam), karusichey (blacksoil land), punchey (dry lands), nattam, garden lands (tottam), tanks (kulam) and tank-spread (kulapparippu), with the exclusion of the passichchandam (i.e., lands given for Jain or Buddhist shrines), and palandēvadānam (i.e., lands assigned for temples) as well as the lands purchased by Udaiyan Küttāduvān alias Villavadaraiyan of Valugur residing in the street called) Kulasēkharapperunteru at Pattina-Marudūr in Sūrankudi-nādu and given as dēradāna to (the temple of) UlaguyyavandaIsvaramudaiyār of this village which consisted of house (manai), garden and nattam, might be formed into one village and one puravu, after removing their previous owners, (their) old names, cultivation and holding, and be given from the year opposite to the first year opposite to the eighth year as brahmadēya in the name of the mamadi (i.e., uncle) as Pokaļa-Vira-Somidēvachaturvēdimangalam in Murappu-nādu, with the right to inhabit the natlam, fit for habitation, being entered as shares and house-sites; and the māmadi having told us that in respect of payment of taxes of this village, the lands should be measured by Sundara-Pāņdiyan-kol of twenty-four feet length, (the kind of) crop examined, and on lands on which crops had been realised, there should be paid from this year one-fourth kāśu and three kalam of paddy, as measured by Vīra pāņdiyan, on each mā of land for kār, towards antarāya and viniyoga inclusive of achchu, kāriya-vārächchi, vetti-pättam, pañchu pili, sandhivighrahappēru and all other payable dues, that one-half of this rate should be paid on all lands sown in Tula and crops realised, that two tiramam on each mā should be paid on lands on which ellu, varagu, tinaippul and irungu had been harvested, that this (same) rate should be (fixed) for paśānam also, and that this (i.e., the above-mentioned) rate of assessment should be entered in registers; We ordered that for (providing) the two hundred and twenty-four persons (entitled) Chaturvēdi-Bhattas, versed in the Vēdas and Sāstras and capable of expounding them, with two hundred and twenty-four shares, with twenty other shares as vritti for doing service in the dēvadāna, making a total of two hundred and forty-four shares, Kūdalur in Murappu-năļu and the villages comprising Kilai-Kūdalur, situated within the four boundaries (specified hereunder), viz., -the east boundary being to the west of the river Tan-Porundam, the southern boundary being to the north of the boundary of Muttālaňkuruchchi alias Rājasimhamangalam and of Sēñalūr alias Tiruvaranga-chaturvēdimangalam, the western boundary being to the east of the channel of this Murappu-nādu called Sundarapāņdiyan-tennāru, and the northern boundary being to the south of the river Tan.
