"In the 48th year of the raign) of king Rajakesarivarman, alias the emperor of the three worlds, the glorious Kulottunga-Choladéva.”
"In the [48]th year, - on the day of Satabhishaj, which corresponded to a Friday and to the second tithi of the first fortnight of the month of Kumbha."
The conclusion arrived at above, p. 72, was that the reign of Kulôttunga-Chola I. began between the 14th March and the 8th October (both days inclusive) of A.D. 1070. If this is right, the month of Kumbha (January-February) of the first year of the king's reiga must have fallen in A.D. 1071. in Saka-Sarnynt 992 expired, and the same month of his 48th year must fall in Saka-Sarhvat 1039 expired. And for that year this date does work out faultlessly.
In Saka-Samvat 1039 expired the month of Kumbha lasted from the 23rd January to the 21st February A.D. 1118, and during that time the second lithi of the bright half ended 15h. 35m. after mean sanrise of Friday, the 25th January A.D. 1118, when the nakshatra by the equal-space system was Satabhishaj for 2h. 38m. after mean sunrise. The date thus confirms the conclusion previously arrived at, which may now be definitely accepted as correct.
