________________ ... A good deal of work in the field of Prakrit studies has been done by Indologists in German and French languages and our students should be made acquainted with these languages. A student of Linguistics, besides possessing knowledge of northern modern Indian languages should be familiar with the languages of South India. A compilation of up-to-date Prakrit and Apabhramsa lexicons is overdue which can be undertaken with assistance of young scholars. Reference books are badly needed on the subject. I am confident that the Seminar will prove a great success under your able guidance. In order to fulfil the objective of Seminar I wish the organisation to come out with a definite plan for future in the field of Prakrit studies. With warm regards and best wishes, Yours very sincerely, J. C. Jain FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES University of Cambridge K, R. Norman Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 9DA. Date 14-3-73 Dear Dr. Chandra, ......I was very interested to hear of all you are doing to rehabilitate Prakrit Studies in your universities. ......I should like to wish you and all the participants in the Seminar a most fruitful series of meetings. I hope that your deliberations will help to re-establish Prakrit in its rightful position in the universities, and that sufficient workers will be trained and enough financial aid will be forthcoming to produce the critical editions of Prakrit and Apabhramsa texts which are so much needed, and to make the grammars and dictionaries based upon them, Yours sincerely, K.
