An Appeal to Swetamber Nawabs.
The Jains of ancient times, being well-versed in religion, performed gigantic literary and scientific feats and won several Rajahs and Maharajahs to their side and thus helped in the cause of the propagation of Jainism all over India. In the twelfth century Vikram, to quote a recent and well known example, the world renowned Hemchandracharya turned Kumarpal the Maharajah of Patan, Northern Gujrat, to Jainism by means of his superhuman performances and thus caused a great reformatory revolution in the history of Jainism. The unsettled times of the Mahomedan supremacy did not favor progress and the baneful effects of those times have not yet been wiped off though we have been trying of late for improvement in all directions. And ours was not the only sad case. All castes and creeds shared the common fate Time has now come when the leaders of the several communities have takeu the cause of progress to their heart and when they take pleasure in trying to improve the up to-now fallen and backward condition of their fellow-brethren. The learned and sagacious Kayesthas, the wealthy and educated Dhoosars, the refined and wise Kashmiris, the united and strong Mahomedans, the far-sighted and benevolent Digambers have one and all directed their attention to the benifits of general and wide spread educatiou and lave got their own institutions and boarding,
