Religious and Moral Education. ( SOMABHAI B SHAH, PLEADER-KAIRA. )
1- That religious and moral education is a necessity among Jains as among other communities does not need demonstration. The latter species of education is inseparable from the former and hence the inculcation of the principles of universal morality is one of the functions of religious education which thus plays an important part in the formation of character so indispensable to success in every sphere of life. History teaches us that nations have risen and fallen with the rise and fall in the character of individuals composing the uations concerned. I here deal with the temporal advantages alone of religious education apart from spiritual Take the instance of a highly educated and intelligent man who, with ali his intellectual equipment, has pot no character and is capable of doing anything however dishonest and immoral. We will find bim universally distrusted and despised with the consequence that he will not in the loug run prosper in life whether he is a professional man, Government serrant or werchant.
