________________ 204 a building was erected on the site granted by Government at a cost of Rs. 7,000/-. This is at present known as the Himabhai Institute situate opposite the present Telegraph Office, outside Bhadra, In 1856 the Society handed over the management of the Institute to a separate Committee. 4. Side by side with the said Library the Society undertook in 1850 the management of a private Primary School. Originally it was a mixed school open both to boys and girls. Later on it was turned into a girl's school exclusively. Through the generous donation of Sethani Harkunverbai of Rs. 4000/- for a building and Rs. 12,000/- towards endowment for its maintenance the School has had a permanent abcde and is known as Harkunver Sethani's school situate at Tankshal, Kalupur. Later on the Society transferred the management of this school to a separate body. 5. The Society's activities extended in all directions for spread of knowledge. It felt the want of a Printing Press for publication of books at cheap price and therefore in 1851 a Litho Press was started. By means of the Press the Society supplied, at low rates a large number of books to the Education Department for use in the Vernacular Schools. 6 In 1854 the society felt necessity of an organ for spread of its aims and objects. So it started the monthly Magazine Buddhi-prakash both for propoganda as also for spread of knowledge and encouragement of Vernacular literature. The Buddhiprakash is being published regularly and is now in the 76th year.
