________________ ૨૧૨ 21. The management of the Society vests in a Managing Body of 20 members elected annually by the Society in their General Meeting. The present membership of the Society consists in all of 679. members of whom 13 are Europeans, about 17 are ruling Princes and Thakores, about 320 are female members and the rest represent gentlemen from all parts of Gujarat. H. H. Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad Maharaja of Baroda is the patron of the Society. In addition to these there are 552 libraries registered as members. A detailed list of the members of the Managing Committee and other members as well as registered libraries will be found in the accompanying report (p. 1 to 20 ). 22. It will be seen from the rules of the Society a copy whereof is appended hereto that the funds of the Society are required to be invested in the Imperial Bank or Postal Savings Bank. It is an uniform practice to invest the Society's funds in securities authorised by the Trust Act. 23. In view therefore of the foregoing circumstances viz:-- (a) That, the Society is a public institution of long standing carrying on the promotion and spread of knowledge and education. (b) That, it badly requires the land of S. No. 4663. for its legitimate extensions as well as to increase its usefulness and service to the public. (c) That, if the land is granted either free or on nominal rent the Society is and will be able to raise the necessary funds for the building. That, Government have always in the past recognised the Society and its objects as a fit (d)
