workers to carry on their work. In this connection it may be noted that the society has recently endowed prizes to be given to research students for writing thesis in Gujarati on either History, literature, economics, sociology or science.
14. The society therefore recently approached Government for acquisition of the adjoining properties bearing the present S. Nos. 4724, 4725, & 4728. Governments have been pleased to undertake the acquisition proceedings as prayed for in view of the fact that the society is a public body rendering useful service to the general public for spread of education and knowledge.
15. Side by side with the said private lands there is a piece bearing S. No. 4726 belonging to the Ahmedabad Municipality admeasuring about
104 sq. yds. The society approached the Municipality who in view of the usefulness to the general public of the society, have passed a resolution for granting the land to the society at a nominal price.
16. The society's present buildings are situated in present S. No. 4729 and cover an area of about 600 sq. yds. The additions theretc by the said acquisition and the grant by the Municipality will give the society a further area about 232 sq. yds. The additional space is however not sufficient for the growing needs of the society particularly for the location of its library.
17. There is no scope for any extension on the north and the east of the present site as the buildings abut on important roads with very heavy and continuous traffic. The only possibility of extension is therefore on the south and the west of the
