as permanent Agency to hold trust funds for educational purpose which could be acquired and attracted on a large scale, if confidence were created among the people. The society was accordingly registered under Act XXI of 1860 on 29-9-1880.
10. After the registration of the Society funds began to flow in steadily. Books-publication branch as well as the library of the society began to grow considerably and the society felt the need of its own home with the necessary facilities for future exterisions. The society therefore approached Government for a grant of land. Government were pleased to grant the society 533 sq. yards of land at its present site opposite Karanj for a nominal occupaucy price of Rs. 582-10-0 and a nominal annual rent of Rs. 5-8-6. Possession of this land was given over to the society on 20th May 1898 and the society thereafter put up its present buildings on the said site. The society feeling the necessity of an adjoining strip of land of 67 sq. yds., again approached Government for the same and this was also granted to the society for a nominal premium of Rs. 71-3-0 and a nominal annual rental of Rs. 9-11-2. Possession of this strip was given to the society on 19th of January 1904.
11. Present buildings of the society with the Public hall forming the first floor of the said buildings are located on the said lands granted by Government and were put up from 1898 to 1924, at an approximate cost of about 31,000/- rupees.
